Paper Manufacturing
Production and processing of paper rolls.
Also called: Paper Manufacturing · 제지 산업 · Paper industry
Last verified: 2026-05-27
An industry that produces and processes large paper rolls (mother rolls). Cutting a wide roll into ordered widths — Roll Slitting — is the textbook case of 1D Cutting Stock. It is also historically significant: Gilmore and Gomory's 1961 introduction of column generation for the cutting-stock problem grew directly out of the paper-trim problem. Reducing trim loss (the offcuts thrown away) is the profit.
